Delivered a multi-stage upgrade of mine access roads for one of Australia’s largest gold mining operations. These projects improved the capacity and safety of critical haul and access routes used daily by heavy mine vehicles. Over three stages, our team transformed greenfield and existing mine areas into high-standard road infrastructure capable of supporting substantial traffic loads. The program of works included:
Heavy Earthworks: Widening and realignment of existing gravel roads through rugged terrain, involving rock excavation, cut-and-fill earthworks and importing select fill.
Pavement Construction: Installation of robust pavements and wearing courses designed for heavy haul trucks and high traffic volumes.
Intersection & Entry Improvements: Upgrades to intersections where mine roads meet public roads, adding turning lanes, signage and barriers to enhance visibility and safety for both mining and public traffic.
Drainage & Erosion Control: Construction of culverts, roadside swales and cross-drains to manage stormwater runoff, plus installation of erosion control measures (such as rock protection and sediment basins) to maintain road integrity during wet conditions.
Mine-Site Coordination: Close coordination with mine operations to schedule works around shift changes and critical hauling times, utilizing mine safety protocols (traffic spotters, radio communications, vehicle exclusion zones) to prevent disruptions to ongoing production.
The completed road upgrades now provide all-weather, reliable access for operations, reducing travel times and maintenance needs while improving overall safety across the mine’s transportation network.
